Trip to Heureka Science Centre in Helsinki

In April 2007 SEB and the Tallink Group held a joint client event aboard the Tallink STAR during which almost 25,000 kroons was raised and donated to the Charity Fund. The SEB Eesti Ühispank Charity Fund decided to use the donation to organise a trip for children from the Pärnu Family Centre and the Children’s Shelter of the Tallinn Children’s Home.

On 2 July everyone sailed to Helsinki to spend an exciting and memorable day in the Heureka Science Centre, which is one of the most attractive science centres for families in the world. People are not supposed to touch the items displayed in traditional museums, but the purpose of the exhibitions in Heureka is to let everyone discover the world of science through experiments.
The day consisted of the boat trip, a visit to the science centre, a buffer lunch, a short city tour and the boat trip back home.

The directors of the shelters said that the children were very excited before the trip. The boat trip alone was a great experience for the children, as many of them had never been on a boat before. This was the first trip abroad for the children, which even made going through passport control and other official procedures an exciting experience. Everyone could have a look round in Heureka, touch everything, listen to everything, play, climb and crawl. The pizza bar, where you could eat as much as you wanted, was a particular favourite of the children. They could also have as much ice cream as they could eat – this is every child’s dream and everyone made the most of the opportunity. Both the children and their carers were happy about the trip – it was a day that was fun and different from their everyday lives in the shelter.

There is no such thing as a bad child! All children need attention and someone to spend time with them. Every child has the right to be happy – the day in Helsinki certainly gave them that!
