The performance of “Sipsik” taught us to also appreciate old things

In November, children from eight family homes around Estonia – from Tartu, Põlva County, Ida-Viru County, Saare County, Viljandi, Tallinn and Jõgeva County – went to see the brand new performance “Sipsik and the Old Things” in the Chamber Hall of the Estonian National Opera. The musical performance, which was based on elements from Eno Raud’s famous children’s book, hooked the children as well as the accompanying adults with its heartfelt message and memorable set design.

Some of the children were in Tallinn for the first time and on such a long trip. Therefore, using public transport in a big city was a separate experience.

The performance, which took place in the small hall, touched the children closely. The visual effects were very nice, and the children followed the performance with interest. Even the most restless of the children sat as quiet as mice. Seeing the performance also wakened a lot of old memories amongst the adults.

Every family home received programme sheets and a copy of the book “Sipsik” as a present from the fund, on which one could ask for a personal dedication or an autograph. The children were also taken on a small backstage tour.

After the performance, a lot of the families were talking about childhood memories and favourite toys. It was discussed how toys have changed over time. A lot of them also expressed the wish to craft presents for their loved ones themselves.
