The Christmas wish tree is made up of the dreams and wishes of children in shelters and substitute homes, sent to Santa Clause. To make sure that these do not just remain dreams, pick a gift from the Christmas tree and make a donation to the best of your ability.

Children need friends who believe in them

Children always need adults with whom they can communicate outside their family circle. Personal experience means that adults have a lot to offer to young people. Here are some stories from the children who were looking for big friends.

Robert is a 13-year old boy who considers himself an Estonian as well as a Russian. He is interested in cars, technical things, music and everything else that is exciting. Unfortunately, alcohol is also part of those exciting things. He wants to get rid of his bad habits, but his family don’t believe him anymore… He’s being raised by his grandmother; his grandfather died a couple of years ago. Robert needed a friend who would believe in him and show him some proper values.

Tiiu is 16. When she was younger, she had a support person, who also became a good friend of hers – this is why Tiiu knows how valuable this experience is. Tiiu’s father died when she was little, and her twin brother died unexpectedly when he was 10. Tiiu was in the middle of a new ‘low’ when she joined the programme: everything seemed to be fine, but her soul was hurting. She’s doesn’t want to discuss everything with her mother, as she doesn’t want to make her worry. Tiiu needed an older friend she could talk to as an equal – someone who won’t fuss overly, but give her back her hope and belief in life.

Toomas is 12 years old, smart, outspoken and full of energy. “I was quite a handful when I was little,” he says. “You know, super active.” Toomas always wants to do something. He doesn’t play any sports because he cannot focus on them and the trainers cannot deal with him being all over the place. He rarely sees his father and his mother cannot go with him everywhere he wants. But Toomas wanted to see new and interesting places, try different sports, even just sit down and read with someone, since every now and then you need to share your thoughts. He was looking for a friend who was active, but also patient and friendly who knew where to draw the line…someone normal.
